The preparations for salvaging Lancaster ED603 have started. Meanwhile, the entire 30-by-30-metre sheet pile wall is in place. At the end of August, the water will be pumped out of this section so that the plane, which lies on the bottom of lake IJssel, can be salvaged. Salvage work will start 4 September.
The British plane was intercepted by a German fighter during World War II on the night of 12-13 June 1943.
